Cultivating Pearls: A Rite of Passage (Youth 15-18 years)

Cultivating Pearls addresses the needs of a young woman who is experiencing a “rite of passage” as she goes from girl to woman. We have always felt that our youth program could only be successful if the mothers were involved. This transition, or rite of passage, is most powerful when a mother or a mother-figure is available to properly mentor a young woman into the realm of womanhood.
           
Cultivating Pearls has seven symbolic levels: The Call, Challenges, Getting Lost, Remembering/Mentoring, Hard Work, The Ultimate Test, and The Homecoming. These levels correspond with the “epic journey.” Each mother and daughter can complete Cultivating Pearls on their own, or they can team up with another mother/daughter team or two to finish the program. At the end of the process, both mother and daughter receive a pearl bracelet to symbolize the journey they have taken.

 

String of Pearls (Women 18 and older)

Stringof Pearls is our home study program based on the material we have developed in previous courses. Women read the suggested materials and complete the assignments at their own individual speed with no deadlines and no pressure. They are provided with a study outline, and they can choose to complete the journey alone, persuade a friend to go through it with them, or appeal to their mother or grandmother to join them.

The String of Pearls program, like our youth program, Cultivating Pearls, reflects the “epic journey” that each one of us takes as we develop womanhood in our lives–the same journey that is represented in the petals of our sunflower. We want to emphasize that developing the art of womanhood is a journey. It’s a process, and it is individual. Each participant can engage in one level of her journey at a time, stringing the lessons learned on each level together to create the final product: a String of Pearls. Rather than receiving a certificate at the end, each woman will receive a string of pearls.

 

Books - The Art of Womanhood: Embracing will be available for purchase in January 2009

The next component of our program will include publishing literature and producing audio to share our message with a broad range of women. The first three books will be The Art of Womanhood: Remembering, The Art of Womanhood: Embracing, and The Art of Womanhood: Becoming. They will be authored by three members of the Art of Womanhood board. Future titles provided by members of the board will include Defining Your Allegiance, Homeless America, and The Crowning Glory. Articles will be available for purchase from time to time, and CDs of lectures will also be produced. Eventually we will create audio books of our material, and our information will be widely available to all those who feel drawn to develop the art of womanhood.

 

 

Newsletters - Available again Fall 2009

The Clarion will be available again, next year. We will continue to review and publish articles from those who participate in the String of Pearls program, and we anxiously await submissions from the participants of Cultivating Pearls. We look forward to an interactive writing forum.

 

 

Seminars/Teleseminars - Available 2010

To increase the impact of the books, and to reach those who may dislike reading, Art of Womanhood will hold seminars that teach the principles of their corresponding book. These will replace the annual and bi-annual events held in the past. They will be held periodically throughout each year in various locations throughout the country. Eventually teleseminars will be made available by phone or online to take the experience of the live seminar to remote areas.
